Can A Person Ever Fully Know Themself?

What does it even mean to know oneself?

I think it's more about how I perceive myself, what my goals are, what does life mean to me, how do I react to situations, etc.

If we consider Carl Jung's theory, we all have two sides to ourselves. the ego that we show to the world, and the suppressed shadow that we keep hidden from everyone (even from ourselves) since its unaccepted by the society. To even consider that we know ourselves we first need to embrace both those sides of our personality. How our ego makes us appear "secure" when our shadow is actually "insecure".

Knowing oneself is a journey to discover our deeper character traits, uncovering them and embracing them. I can't say I know myself while rejecting my feminine side.

Can they know themselves?

I don't think its practically possible. Saying "I know everything about myself" is like saying there is no room for growth. It's like rejecting the possibility of there being something more that we don't know about.

It's like being in first person view. Our knowledge is limited by the information and experiences. We can try and make sense of everything we know but there will always be parts that we haven't even seen yet. Maybe if we get an omniscient view we would be able to analyze different parts from every angle.

Even with that, we keep changing, growing and evolving all the time. Life will throw a curve ball and we discover a part of us that we never even knew existed. So self-discovery is a lifelong process with no fixed end goal.

We can get close to it, we can discover parts of ourselves that they never knew existed, but there will always be some parts in our blind spot. There will never be "I know everything about myself"
